Taylor Returns to Exhibit in the Mayor’s Office

By Martine Wolfe-Miller, Communications Officer

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (January 8, 2015) – Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page and the Mount Pleasant Culture, Arts & Pride Commission yesterday welcomed returning artist Becky Taylor to the Art in the Mayor’s Office Exhibit – a program spearheaded by the mayor to promote awareness of local artists and foster community pride.

“Mount Pleasant has a rich cultural and artistic heritage and the Mayor’s Office is a natural place to display local art to visitors and residents,” said Mayor Page. “I invite all artists to submit their art for consideration.”
Becky Taylor is a watercolorist, current president of the Mount Pleasant Artists Guild and former president of the Watercolor Society in Indiana and Michigan Water Color Society member.
She was the first artist to have her art displayed in the mayor's office. Her watercolor painting, titled Beach Boys, referenced her home on Lake Michigan and the slow pace and childhood memories of summer.
Taylor is now exhibiting a watercolor of the iconic Shem Creek Park. "Everyone loves Shem Creek,” she said. “My husband and I often boat on the creek at different times of the day. It is remarkable to see the change of colors and lighting illuminating Shem Creek. It is our favorite place to visit.”
Taylor began with oils and acrylic but has since pursued her love for watercolor. "Watercolor is my passion,” she said. “It is 80 percent thinking and 20 percent painting.”
About Becky Taylor
Taylor’s work is represented at Mount Pleasant Town Hall, Miriam Brown Center, ArtFest and the Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival, as well as Carolina Eye Care on Hwy 17.
Her professional memberships include the following: Cardinal Fellow/WSI; Indiana Artist Club-Signature Member and past board member; Hoosier Salon-Award Winner; Michigan Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Society of Indiana-Signature member, past President (2 terms), Treasurer and Executive Vice-President. She is currently serving on the Patron Advisory Board of WSI.
She offers painting classes at Becky Taylor Fine Art and River’s Reach Studio on Tuesday and Fridays. You can visit her online at BeckyTaylorArtist.blogspot.com or call her at (231) 869-4855.

BECKY TAYLOR FINE ART - BIOGRAPHY

Becky and her husband, R. D. Taylor, retired to Charleston, SC last year.  Prior to that, they lived in Carmel, IN and Pentwater, MI.

Originally Becky took oil classes, but became enamored with all mediums which she still enjoys.
Watercolors, however, continue to be her passion.

Becky chooses to paint subjects that soothe and renew her spirit as well as her viewers.  She hopes the viewers can symbolically walk into her paintings, find a restful and beautiful place to find their centers, to be at one with themselves and to be joyful they are alive.

She paints mostly representational art and responds to the moment with pure joy.  She views her work as a fulfillment of her life's purpose rather than a a profession.  Flowers, gardens, and landscapes are some of her favorite subjects.

Her professional memberships included:  Cardinal Fellow/Signature Member/WSI, Indiana Artist Club-signature member and past board member, Hoosier Salon-awards winner, MWS and WSI, signature member, past President, Treasurer and is currently a member of the Charleston Artist's Guild, Mount Pleasant Artists Guild, South Carolina Watercolor Society and the Southern Watercolor Society. Since arriving in South Carolina, she has won several awards. Currently, she is displaying at the Coastal Museum in Hilton Head, SC and the painting will travel for a year around the state of SC.  Becky was presented an award from the Artists of Studio South.

Becky teaches private and group lessons and holds local workshops.  She has been Artist in Residence at several schools in Indiana and Michigan.

Becky is represented in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and foreign countries.

You may wish to visit her blog at BeckyTaylorArtist.blogspot.com

You may also view her works at the Municipal Town Hall, and Mullis Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant, SC or at her studio by appointment only.  Presently she is displaying her art at Mayor Page's Office.  You may contact Becky at:  231-869-4855
